Jamaat-e-Islami senator Mushtaq Ahmad demands to stop the release of ‘Joyland’

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan called the soon-to-be-released film ‘Joyland’ against Pakistani social values and demanded to stop the release of the film.
‘Joyland’ will be released across Pakistan on November 18 this month, the story of the film revolves around a young man and a transgender who fall in love while working at a dance club.
The same film was awarded the “Cannes: Queer Palm” award at the Cannes Film Festival, which is given exclusively to films based on the stories of gay or bisexual people.
Apart from this, recently the actor in the film, Ali Junejo, was also awarded the best actor award at the Sao Paulo Film Festival.
The Jamaat-e-Islami senator, while releasing the video in his tweet, claimed that the film had tried to promote homosexuality and planned to attack the social values of Pakistan through such films.
He said that he had first sought information from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in writing regarding the release of the film and was told that permission had been given for the film to be released across Pakistan.
According to Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, he was told that the Film Censor Board did not find any controversial content in ‘Joyland’.
The senator said that the film Joyland is against the institution of marriage and nikah, it depicts homosexuality, as the film was also awarded Queer Palm Award at the Cannes Film Festival.
He called for the film to be banned, calling it an attack on Pakistani social values and also announced that he would campaign against the banning of ‘Joyland’.
Directed by Saim Sadiq, the cast of this film includes Sania Saeed, Trans actress Alina Khan, Sarwat Gillani and Ali Junejo.
