LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) leader Jahangir Tareen on Saturday demanded from the government to change the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) team which was investigating his case.
Addressing media outside a banking court in Lahore, Jahangir Tareen said, “The PTI is my party. It is the party of us all, where else we will go.”
However, he said, they needed justice at the moment. He said the investigation should be completely fair and independent. “A new team should be formed because the current team is biased. Such people should not be included in the team who work on the directions received on a phone call,” he said.
The PTI leader also said that he would be available whenever the court would summon him.
The banking court has extended bail of Jahangir Tareen and his son Ali Tareen in the cases of money laundering and monetary fraud.
On Mar 31, the FIA Lahore had lodged an FIR against estranged PTI leader Tareen and his son over their alleged involvement in money laundering and financial fraud worth Rs3.25 billion.
Other family members of Jahangir Tareen were also nominated in the money embezzlement case, local media had reported. Commenting on the case, Tareen had said that the filing of the case was unfortunate.
“FIA’s latest claims against me and my family are totally fabricated. I have already submitted a detailed reply along with concrete evidence in response to FIA notice. (It is) Unfortunate to see them go on another smear campaign against me and my family without establishing anything illegal,” he had said.
