In the 6th match of the Pakistan Super League 6, Islamabad United decimated Karachi Kings by 5 wickets at the National Stadium Karachi on Wednesday.
197-run target is the fourth-highest chase of the PSL history.
Islamabad United had a shaky start in the batting line as Phil Salt was routed for duck by skipper Imad Wasim in the first over, then in the next over Mohammad Amir took scalp of United captain Shadab Khan, once again for duck.
The key wicket for Kings came in the sixth over as Alex Hales was removed for 46 runs off 21 balls. While, Faheem Ahsraf was bowled out for 25 in the seventh over.
Hussain Talat was removed for 42 runs by Mohammad Nabi in the 18th over, after he made 94-run partnership with unbeaten Iftikhar Ahmed (49 off 37).
Earlier, Islamabad United won the toss and elected to bowl first against Karachi Kings.
Openers Sharjeel Khan and Babar Azam had guided their team to an imposing total, but all in vain.
The game first took an interesting turn when Sharjeel Khan started hitting sixes all around the ground. He hit two boundaries in the eighth over then in the next over he spanked Shadab Khan with four back to back maximums.
Babar Azam and Sharjeel Khan set the record opening partnership of 176 runs. Earlier Liam Livingstone and Babar Azam’s 157-run stand in 2019 was the highest opening partnership of the PSL.
After wrecking havoc, Babar Azam (62 off 54) finally was run out in the second last over of the innings, then just on the next ball, Sharjeel Khan (105 off 59) also departed.
