Islamabad Court suspends physical remand of Shahbaz Gill, orders another medical check-up
An Islamabad court on Friday suspended physical remand of PTI leader Shahbaz Gill until Monday and ordered to send him to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for a reassessment of his health while announcing the verdict on a plea seeking an extension in Gill’s physical remand in a sedition case filed against him.
Islamabad Police took Shahbaz Gill from the back door of PIMS Hospital under strict security. While going to court from PIMS Hospital, Shahbaz Gill was wearing an oxygen mask on his face and was taken to Islamabad Court on a wheelchair.
On behalf of Islamabad Police, Shahbaz Gill was produced in the court of Judicial Magistrate Raja Farrukh Ali Khan.
A heavy contingent of police has been deployed in the Islamabad court to deal with any kind of emergency, while a contingent of FC has also been deployed outside the courtroom.
Islamabad police has sought eight-day extension in physical remand of Gill to complete their investigation in the case.
“Is police seeking a new remand or want an extension in the previous one,” the court asked and further inquired the police if they were able to probe the suspect during the two days of the remand.
Advocate Faysal Chaudhry, who represented Shahbaz Gill, said during the hearing that medical report has suggested that the PTI leader was tortured during custody.
“The suspect is infront of you in a wheelchair and if physical remand is approved it could endanger his life,” he said while pleading his case before the court.
Earlier, A video of Shahbaz Gill crying and calling for help as he needs oxygen mask to breathe is being circulated on social media.
According to reports, Gill’s mask was removed from his face due to overcrowding.
Sources said a board of doctors of the PIMS hospital released Gill’s medical report late Thursday. The medical board issued the report after conducting 10 different tests, including the coronavirus test. All his tests are clear, according to the report.
Besides this, six different X-rays were also carried out. The report says the PTI leader is in good physical health and no signs of torture were found on his body.
