ISLAMABAD: The local administration of Islamabad has imposed a ban on sale of cold drinks in all schools and madrassas in the federal capital territory, under Section 144.
A notification in this regard was issued on Thursday evening. The ban would be effective for two months.
Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Muhammed Hamza Shafqaat said the ban was imposed after receiving 91 percent people’s opinion in its favor in a poll on social media. “Apart from this, the health department has also suggested for the prohibition, while Punjab has already once banned the fizzy drinks,” he said.
According to reports of the World Health Organisation and other bodies, such drinks were unhygienic for kids, Hamza Shafqaat said. He said awareness campaign in this regard would be launched from Friday (Feb 14). “We will like the federal government to formally introduce a law banning fizzy drinks in the country,” he said.
