Ishaq Dar’s reaction to the Government’s claims on GDP

LAHORE: Former finance minister and senior PML-N leader Ishaq Dar has rejected the PTI government’s claim of raising the growth rate to 5.37. Ishaq Dar has claimed that the government has manipulated the data, in fact the economy is in decline.
Former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has shared a video on Twitter in which he rejected the government’s claim regarding the growth rate and said that the government has changed the base year to show the high rate of GDP. He said that after this rigging, the second year of PTI government saw a negative growth rate of 0.39 in the country. He lamented that for the first time since 1952, Pakistan had seen negative GDP. He said that after changing the basic year, the growth rate has come down further to 1% but the government kept the people in the dark.
The senior PML-N leader added, in the third year of his rule, while the PTI government was able to show a 0.2% improvement in GDP after the rigging. The country’s growth rate in 2018, and the last year of the PML-N government, I grew 0.6% and total GDP growth was 6.1%.
The former finance minister expressed anger at the government for not controlling inflation. He further said that now the inflation rate has doubled as last month the inflation index was recorded at 12%. Criticizing the government for its claims of development, Ishaq Dar asked how many jobs the government has created or whether it has eradicated poverty or strengthened the Pakistani currency. He lamented that the PTI government is destroying the country’s economy and should stop fooling the people.
