The United Nations International Day of Widows is being observed around the globe on Tuesday including Pakistan.

Senator and Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz paid rich tribute to the valiant Kashmiri women, whose husbands sacrificed their lives for the right to self-determination.

He also saluted in a tweet the strong determination of the half-widows, whose husbands were subjected to the worst kind of abuse in the Indian torture cells.

The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in his message in a tweet that the death of a partner can leave many women without inheritance or property rights.

He said that it is time to put an end to discriminatory laws that deny men equal rights for women and guarantee access to social protection.
