The industrial and business community opposed the increase in the price of gas by Sui Southern Gas Company by Rs 79 per unit.
A virtual hearing of Sui Southern’s petition was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of OGRA Vice Chairman Noorul Haq.
MD Sui Southern said in the hearing that the financial condition of the company is bad, the company is suffering a loss of more than Rs 28 billion.
Leaders and representatives of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that the price of gas should not be increased for two years, instead of increasing the price of gas, the company should reduce its losses.
The business community said that while conditions in Sui Southern were bad, so was the industrial sector in Corona, while Aptma also opposed the increase in gas prices.
OGRA has given stakeholders two more days to comment on Sui Southern’s request for an increase in gas price.
OGRA Vice Chairman said that the decision would be taken after a detailed review of the application and stakeholder comments.
