India has reported 412,262 new COVID cases and 3,980 more deaths in the past 24 hours which is the highest-ever record for a country so far.
“Top five states which have registered maximum cases are Maharashtra with 57,640 cases, followed by Karnataka with 50,112 cases, Kerala with 41,953 cases, Uttar Pradesh with 31,111 cases and Tamil Nadu with 23,310 cases,” India Today reports.
The report further states that these five states have reported 49.52% of the new cases. Maharashtra is alone responsible for 13.98% of the new cases.
Maharashtra has also reported highest number of deaths (920 out of the national figure of 3,980).
India has surpassed 21 million COVID cases while the death toll stands at 230,168.
India is currently facing a severe crisis during the second wave of the infections. Bodies are piling up at cremation grounds and in graveyards as the country fights oxygen shortage.
