India: McDonald’s faces boycott for serving halal meat in India.
McDonald’s, the world’s second largest restaurant chain by number of locations in the world (37,855+) faces backlash from Indian Twitteratis after confirming the use of halal meat in India.
It all started on Twitter when a girl asked “Is McDonald’s in India Halal certified?”
In reply, McDonald’s India wrote
“All our restaurants have HALAL certificates. You can ask the respective restaurant Managers to show you the certificate for your satisfaction and confirmation.”
As ‘Halal’ is the Islamic way of slaughtering animal and ‘Jhatka’, on the other hand, is meat from an animal killed instantaneously with an electric shock eaten by Hindus.
The tweet spread like a fire on Twitter and #boycottmcdonalds started to trend.
