Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said he is planning to quit social media.

On Monday, the prime minister revealed in a tweet from his official Twitter handle that he is thinking of giving up his social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube this weekend. Modi has over 30 million Instagram followers.

This Sunday, thinking of giving up my social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & YouTube. Will keep you all posted.

Modi has 53 million followers on Twitter, and is one of the most popular figures on the social network for microblogging. Nevertheless, the Premier did not reveal his reasons for quitting, saying he would keep everyone updated, however.

Following his tweet, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also posted a tweet asking him to “give up hate, not social media accounts.”
