Indian-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir reported its first death from coronavirus on Thursday.
According to sources, the patient was a 65-year-old man who had recently returned to Kashmir after partaking in a Tablighi Jamaat gathering. He had previously visited New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Jammu.
His passing away was reported at the Chest Disease Hospital in Srinagar.
IoK has so far reported eight cases of the coronavirus. Three cases have emerged in Jammu.
“As we share the sad news of our first #Covid19 fatality, my heart goes out to the family of the deceased. We stand with you and share your grief,” Srinagar Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu tweeted.
The valley has been under lockdown dating back to August 5, when India revoked Article 371 and the special status given to the region.
