Transparency International, an international corruption watchdog, has named India the most corrupt country in Asia.
According to a foreign news agency, Transparency International said in its report that India has the highest corruption rate in Asia at 39%.
According to the report, 46% of Indians pay bribes to work in government agencies, which is the highest rate in Asia. The bribe-givers told Transparency International that there is no work done in India without having to bribe for it.
According to Transparency International, 20,000 people from 17 Asian countries were surveyed. Japan and the Maldives are among the countries with the lowest levels of bribery.
The report states “Nearly 50% of those who paid bribes were asked to, while 32% of those who used personal connections said they would not receive the service otherwise.”
