Imran wishes new military top brass would end ‘trust deficit’ between Nation and State

Former prime minister Imran Khan felicitated newly-appointed Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir and Chairman Joint Chief of Army Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza on assuming charge of their office with a wish that the new leadership will end the ‘trust deficit’ between the nation and the state.

Taking to twitter he wrote: “Congratulations to Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza as new CJCSC and Gen Syed Asim Munir as new COAS. We hope new military leadership will work to end prevailing trust deficit that has built up in last 8 months between the nation and the State.”

“Strength of the State is derived from its people,” he added.

In his tweet, the former prime minister also shared the words of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s address to the armed forces, in which he said, “Don’t forget that the armed forces are the servants of the people and you don’t make the national policy, it is we, the civilians, who decide the issue and it is your duty carry on these tasks with which you are entrusted.”

Earlier, PTI Secretary General Asad Umar criticized General (Retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa and urged the new COAS General Asim Munir, to restore the confidence of the nation, which had been damaged by the decisions taken during the last 8 months.

Notably,  General Syed Asim Munir took command as the 17th Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) as outgoing COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa handed over the ‘baton of command’ to him.

Last week, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza assumed the office of Chairman Joint Chief of Army Staff Committee (CJCSC) after his predecessor General Nadeem Raza retired from military service.
