Imran Khan – Joe Biden phone call expected soon?
A prominent US senator Bob Mendez has requested US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to persuade President Joe Biden to contact Prime Minister Imran Khan in an effort to repair relations with Pakistan.
President Joe Biden, who took over the office in January this year, has yet to call Prime Minister Imran Khan, despite pledges from top US officials that he will do so shortly.
US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy R Sherman, who was recently in Pakistan, stated that the US president will talk with Prime Minister Imran Khan soon.
During an interview with a group of editors, the senior US official stated “We have an idea that every country wants to have a telephone conversation with US President. I am sure that this conversation will be held with Imran Khan soon.”
“I am sure that this contact will take place soon, so I don’t think it should mean anything else.”
Senator Bob Menendez, head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, emphasised the need for such discussions during a fundraiser event on Sunday.
The senator was referring to his request to Secretary Blinken, “I think it would serve us well to have such a conversation and, you know when we have these conversations, they are honest, and that means they are also transparent.”
Dr Tariq Ibrahim, an APPAC board member, hosted the event at his home in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey.
Dr. Ijaz Ahmad, president of APPAC, and Asad Chaudhry, another board member, were among those present.
