IMF, World Bank bar Ishaq Dar from more subsidies

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB) have barred Finance Minister Ishaq Dar from more subsidies on petroleum products and other sectors, according to Federal Finmin.

While giving a press briefing in Washington, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said that during the visit to US, the World Bank and IMF had to be assured that Pakistan will continue its economic policies.

“The promises made to them will be fulfilled,” he added.

Finmin said that, “15 to 20 percent work has been left in the budget reforms, the process of reforms in the energy sector will also continue.

In response to the question of FATF meeting Ishad Dar expressed hope that Pakistan will move out of the grey list.

“Pakistan worked hard to avoid being blacklisted, and if FATF raises any objection, I will try to resolve it,” Dar added.

Catastrophic floods

Referring to the loss caused by devastating floods in the country, the finance minister revealed that the World Bank and other organizations have estimated the losses of $32.4 billion dollars due to the flood.

Ishaq Dar said that so far Rs99 billion have been spent on flood rehabilitation, adding that, “Imran Khan makes irresponsible statements, which shows doubt on the part of America.”

He said that Pakistan’s command and control system is very strong and secure.
