IHC orders to remove Anti-Terrorism Act from terror case against Imran Khan

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday ordered police to remove Anti-terrorism Act (ATA) sections from terrorism case registered against PTI Chairman Imran Khan for threatening additional and sessions judge Zeba Chaudhry.
Earlier, a 2-member bench headed by Chief Justice Athar Minallah heard the PTI’s plea to dismiss the terrorism case against former Prime Minister Imran Khan for threatening female Judge Zeba Chaudhry and senior police officers in the Islamabad High Court today.
According to the decision, the proceedings against the former prime minister will continue in the relevant forum on other provisions except anti-terrorism.
Imran Khan’s lawyer Barrister Salman Safdar, Police Prosecutor Raja Rizwan Abbasi and Police Investigation Officer appeared in the court today for the hearing.
In the previous hearing, the court had sought a report from the JIT till the next hearing on the PTI’s plea to dismiss the terrorism case against Imran Khan.
After hearing the arguments from both parties Chief Justic IHC Athar Minallah ordered to remove Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) from terrorism case against Imran Khan.
Background
A first information report (FIR) was registered against the former prime minister on August 21 under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) for threatening the additional sessions judge and senior police officers of the Islamabad Police at a rally in the federal capital’s F-9 Park.
The FIR was registered on the complaint of magistrate Ali Javed at Islamabad’s Margalla Police Station under Section 7 of ATA.
