IHC declared Islamabad Local Government Ordinance null and void
Islamabad: Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani declared the Islamabad Local Government Ordinance null and void while delivering a pre-emptive decision on CDA trade union, CDA Officers Association and other petitions.
The decision of the High Court said that local body elections in Islamabad could not be held under the new ordinance, elections should be held under the old Local Government Act.
The petitioners challenged the introduction of a new local government system through an ordinance in the presence of Local Government Act.
The public prosecutor said that the parliamentary session ended on November 19 and the ordinance was issued on November 23.
The petitions also raised objections to limiting the role of the chairman in Local Government Ordinance and questioned the future of elected representatives as the ordinance failed to become a formal law.
