‘If I don’t work we are not able to survive,’ says 66 year old Muhammad Riaz
Well, many people retire from their jobs and some hand over their business to their children, this is not the case for 66 year old Muhammad Riaz who sells painted pottery in the streets of Defence.
There are five people in the family of Muhammad Riaz. His son’s salary is a mere Rs15,000 which is not enough for the entire family to survive.
Craftsman Riaz took the matter into his own hands to contribute towards the sustainability of his family.
Muhammad Riaz sells the painted pottery on his stall. He said that people here are very good. Residents of the nearby area support him financially which he acknowledges with gratitude.
He is so sure of the artwork that he guarantees if the paint from the pottery scrubs down, the buyer can bring it back to him to get a retouch.
Many people at this age take retirement and try to live their lives in peace but Muhammad Riaz, a resident of Kemari go out to work every morning till 10 pm at night because he says “If I don’t work we are not able to survive.”
