Protests and violence erupted in Hyderabad on Friday night after something blasphemous was reportedly done as the city witnessed sectarian tensions.
According to media reports, police fired tear gas and used aerial firing to disperse an angry mob. People were seen vandalising and burning the religious belongings of another sect while chanting slogans against them in the videos shared on social media.
The intense situation was controlled after security officials reached the Fazal Town area of Phulleli–the center of unusual developments in the city.
The sectarian tensions had been escalating since the evening after someone had done something blasphemous, Dawn quoted a resident of Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, the protesting side and the residents alleged that a man had committed blasphemy and shared the video by mobile phone.
“The situation was tense, but no one was reported injured,” Dawn mentioned.
During the holy month of Muharram, different incidents of sectarian disturbances have led to the imposition of Section 144 in the following areas of Sindh: Badin, Kadhan, Tando Bago and Talhar till Aug 22.
