How many animals sacrificed this year on Eid?

LAHORE: Purchase of sacrificial animals in Pakistan dropped by 25.9 percent this year on Eid ul Adha because of inflation, weak purchasing power, unemployment and coronavirus.

According to the report, 2 million cattle, 3.14 million goats, 0.8 million sheep, and 60, 000 camels were slaughtered this Eid. While rate of skins of animals were slashed up to 50 percent.

Animals worth about Rs242 billion were bought last year, while this year Rs174 were spent on purchasing sacrificial animals.

Former chairman of Pakistan Tanneries Association Agha Syeddain said 6 million animals were sacrificed this year across the country, which was 2.1 million less than the number of animals sacrificed last year – 8.1 million.

He said last year 3 million cattle, 4 million goats, 1 million sheep and 0.1 million camels were slaughtered.
