KANPUR: A group of Hindu extremists publicly beat up a Muslim rickshaw driver while forcing him to chant slogans of ‘Jai Shree Ram’ and paraded him on the road in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
The frightened daughter of the poor man clung to him and kept crying and begging them to stop beating her father, but the members of extremist Bajrang Dal group showed no mercy.
A video of the incident was widely shared on social media platforms. Police have lodged an FIR against five known suspects and 10 unknown assailants.
Kanpur Police Commissioner Aseem Arun told three main accused Rajesh Bandwala, Aman Gupta and Rahul Kumar had been arrested by the police, while efforts were being made to arrest the rest of the accused.
The Muslim man relayed that he was assaulted for an old dispute between people of his area in which he was not even involved.
