High court allows forced retirement of bureaucrats

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday dismissed the petitions against Civil Servants Directory Retirement Rules 2020 and has allowed the ‘forced’ retirement of senior bureaucrats.

Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani of the IHC delivered the reserved judgment today. Various bureaucrats had challenged the civil servant law.

In a written verdict, the court said that the Civil Servants Directory Retirement Service Rules 2020 are in accordance with the law. The competent authority has made the rules in accordance with the prescribed parameters.

The court ruled that the federal government could examine promotion and retirement in the best possible way.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government had introduced the Civil Servants Rules 2020. These laws were challenged by some senior bureaucrats in the high court and the Supreme Court.

During the hearing, the court said that it was not a right of the civil servants to continue to hold the seat till the retirement age after completing 20 years.
