HEC to resume ‘Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme’ for students

In a major relief for students, Higher Education Commission (HEC) announced to restore the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme in the next few days.

Chairman HEC Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed while talking to the journalists said that the budget of HEC has continuously decreased and the number of universities has increased.

“Universities are facing problems due to the financial crisis,” he added.

The Chairman said that HEC has decided that the budget received from the federal government for universities would be allocated among them according to their performances.

Dr Mukhtar announced that “HEC will also initiate a programme for online courses for students in Pakistan’s universities with support from Microsoft and different global organisations,” further adding that, “commission is going to shift the entire system of verifying degrees and receiving equivalence certificates completely online.”

The Chairman Higher Education Commission further said that students from flood-affected areas will be given two semesters relief in fee payment.
