ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday directed to make relevant laws and regulations easier to provide facilities to the investors and businessmen.
He was chairing the fifth meeting of Board of Approval set up for establishment of Special Economic Zones, in Islamabad.
The prime minister said the purpose of establishment of special economic zones was to provide every possible facility and incentives to the business community.
The meeting approved setting up of seven special economic zones in Balochistan, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.
The meeting was told that after approval of law for the SEZs in 2012, only seven economic zones were set up in the country till 2018, while the present government had notified six new economic zones in 2019.
PM Khan also directed for setting up a working group for the establishment of SEZs.
The meeting decided that all matters about the SEZs’ establishment would be resolved by the provincial governments.
It also decided to provide facilities for power production for industries in the special economic zones and wheeling for power transmission.
On Mar 4, PM Imran Khan had directed to expedite the process of privatization of various government organizations and state-owned properties in the country.
Chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad, the prime minister had ordered the authorities concerned that Inter-ministerial coordination should be improved to facilitate privatization process in an effective manner.
Imran Khan had said that privatization of non-profit organizations and un-utilized properties was in the best interest of the country.
