Govt retains nominated Chief of the Army Staff Lt. Gen Asim Munir
In the meeting of the federal cabinet, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif read out the summary of retaining the prime minister Shehbaz Sharif’s nominated chief of the army staff (COAS) Lt. Gen. Asim Munir, which was unanimously approved by the cabinet.
According to the Pakistan Army Act, when an officer retires, a permission request is received in the Ministry of Defense for the retirement. Similarly, Lt. Gen Asim Munir also applied for the retirement permission in the Ministry of Defense, which was rejected by the ministry and it was unanimously decided by the federal cabinet to retain him.
The Defence ministry made a summary of the retention of Lieutenant General Asim Munir under security measures so, that Lt. Gen Asim Munir will not retire on November 27 in the event of the summary being stopped by the President Alvi.
Earlier today, The prime minister decided to appoint Lieutenant General Syed Asim Munir as the new Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) and Lieutenant General Sahir Shamshad as Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC).
Taking to twitter, federal information and broadcasting minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said that the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has appointed Lt. Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza as the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) and Lt. Gen Syed Asim Munir as the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) as per his constitutional authority.
She informed that a summary has been sent to the President Arif Alvi.
