Govt changed PCB’s constitution just to accommodate Najam Sethi: Ramiz Raja
Former Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Ramiz Raja criticised the government over its decision to appoint Najam Sethi as PCB management committee chief, saying “he cannot do anything for the betterment of cricket as he has come to make troubles.”
After being removed as the PCB chief, Ramiz Raja for the first time expressed his views on his YouTube channel.
The former chairman PCB feared that too many changes in the upper body could disturb the unity of the team.
Raja lashed out at government for removing him as PCB chief saying, “There should be no political interference in cricket. The government removed a Test cricketer from chairmanship and changed the whole constitution of PCB just to accommodate Najam Sethi. This is a highly disrespectful way of treating your cricketers.”
He also opened up about the captaincy of Babar Azam and the impact of the new PCB setup on the batter’s leadership.
“I believe in an authoritative captain but Babar has to bring improvement in his captaincy,” he said.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has constituted a 14-member management committee and appointed former PCB chairman Najam Sethi as its chief, in order to revive the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) 2014 Constitution.
The PCB 2014 Constitution has reinstated the departmental sports in the country, which was earlier abolished by former prime minister Imran Khan.
PCB Management Committee removed all members of the cricket’s governing body including Chief Selector Mohammad Wasim.
The PCB Management Committee has informed the members of the Governing Board that they have been sacked after the PCB 2019 Constitution stamped out.
Later, Najam Sethi-led PCB management committee appointed former star all-rounder Shahid Khan Afridi as interim Chief Selector of the Pakistan men’s cricket team.
