The federal government announced to hold senate elections in February next year. The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday.
Some legal reforms were also taken into consideration to make election process more transparent. PM Khan invited all political parties for talks regarding the Senate elections.
The elections are supposed to be held for those 52 seats whose members are going to retire in March.
The Cabinet also stressed on the use of open voting instead of secret ballot as the Senate elections have always remained a subject of debate due to the allegations of horse-trading. It was advised to take Supreme Court into confidence for this matter.
