Google play store services to continue in Pakistan

Google Play Store services will continue to be available in Pakistan as the Ministry of Finance has agreed to release blocked payments to international service providers including tech giant Google.

In a statement, Information and Technology minister Aminul Haque said that the Ministry of Finance has accepted the proposal of the Ministry of IT after which the payment can be made as per the schedule to international service providers.

He added that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has been directed to delay the implementation of the policy for a month and telecos have been given one-month time to implement the payment procedures.

“Within a month, IT Ministry, Finance Ministry and SBP will formulate a plan of action in mutual consultation,” Aminul Haque said.

Earlier it was reported that mobile users will be unable to download the Google Play Store services in Pakistan from December 01, 2022 after the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) suspended the payment of $34 million to international service providers.

The SBP changed the Direct Carrier Billing (DCB) method, which suspended payments of $34 million on an annual basis by mobile companies to international service providers including Google, Amazon and Meta, several publications reported.
