Gilgit-Baltistan bans entry of tourists
The government of Gilgit-Baltistan on Monday announced to ban the entry of tourists in a bid to ensure their safety.
Astore-Diamer Division Commissioner Dildar Ahmed Malik said that the ban would continue till the end of monsoon rains. The decision has been taken few days after a landsliding incident left hundreds of tourists stranded for several hours at Babusar Top and the Karakoram Highway.
Security personnel at Thor and Babusar checkposts have been directed not to allow anybody inside the area.
In Dec 2020, the Khalti Lake, which is located in Ghizer district of Gilgit-Baltistan , had frozen as temperature dropped down to -17 degrees.
People, especially children, from the district could be spotted playing, skating and sporting on the frozen lake. Every year in November, the lake becomes frozen and maintains its state till March.
