Gen Bajwa to receive ‘Honour cordon’ at Pentagon today

US Secretary of Defence Lloyd J. Austin will host an enhanced ‘honour cordon’ for Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Tuesday for an official meeting on his arrival at the Pentagon.
US Department of Defence official website said that, Defence secretary will welcome Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa and will host an enhanced Honour cordon on Tuesday afternoon in the Pentagon. They further said that the event will be covered by Media as well.
Generally, an Honour cordon is given to the US president, Vice President, statutory Appointees, generals, generals or flag officers of military. Other countries’ dignitaries who hold the same level of status as US officials also get such ceremonies for international goodwill.
It was reported today that Gen Bajwa also had meetings with the senior Biden administration in Washington.
Earlier Gen Bajwa arrived in US on a weeklong visit to meet the senior Biden administration. The head of Pakistan Armed forces in his meeting with Birame Diop, Military advisor to Secretary-General United Nations discussed mutual interest and the security situation of the region. Military advisor Diop also discussed the recent catastrophic floods in a meeting with the army chief, according to ISPR press release.
General Bajwa applauded UN military advisor General Diop’s positive role in promoting UN core values, the ISPR said. Discussing the recent catastrophic floods General Diop said that the UN has assured Pakistan of flood rehabilitation.
General Bajwa arrived on Friday in New York. This is his first visit to the US in last 2 years. He was in the US back in 2019 when he accompanied the then Prime Minister Imran khan.
