Fresh research reveals there’s less benefit in avoiding red/ processed meat

According to a fresh but controversial research, reducing consumption of sausages, minced meat, steak and processed red meat is no more than wastage of time for many people.

The report, which has been disputed by multiple organisations, said that there were weak arguments that people’s health had any risk from these items. Some experts have though praised the complicated research, however others say that such dangerously misleading report could put people’s lives at stake.

The red meat includes meat of cattle, sheep and deer, while it does not include meat of birds like hen and duck. On the other hand, processed meat is the meat that can be stored for longer time, which changes its taste. This meat is stored after applying salt to it or it is dried.

“Processed meat could lead to cancer of intestines.” It made headlines, when the World Health Organisation in its report said that processed meat causes cancer. While, the new report said that it was possibly the cause of cancer, however there were less evidence in this regard.

At least 5400 people become victim of intestine cancer just in the United Kingdom. It is believed that the cancer happens because of the usage of processed meat.

The report also suggested that the processed meat could also lead to cardiac diseases and type-II diabetes. According to the scientific results, excessive use of processed meat is bad for your health.

The new research was conducted by experts of Canadian university, McMaster University, and Dalhousie University. The results were published in Internal Medicine journal. The report said that if 1,000 people reduce eating third-fourth of red or processed meat every week then there would be seven less deaths from the total number of deaths due to cancer. Thus, there would be four less deaths in 11 years, if 1,000 people reduce consumption of three-fourth of red meat. Similarly, the number of deaths due to diabetes will also reduce by six.

The research has told almost the same things as were shown by early researches but its interpretation is completely different.

In this report, the experts say that dangers are not intense and the evidence were so weak that it could not confidently tell if the dangers were real.

They said they did not mean that it did not pose any risk to health, but they said that evidently it had less proofs. However, they said less usage of meat had better affects on health.

As per Montreal Gazette, “The team of 14 scientists in the red meat study concluded evidence that links this food to cancer, heart disease and other bad health outcomes is weak. They wrote that if there is a health benefit to giving up meat products, it’s small.”
