Four children arrested for ‘profaning temple’ in Tharparkar’s Chachro

Three teenagers and a 12-year-old boy were arrested on charges of profaning a temple at Chachro Tharparkar.
The temple of Mata Rani Pithani in the village of Premo Charan is located on the way to school of the boys. According to Chachro SHO Hussain Buksh, they were returning home on January 25 when they stopped at the temple to drink water.
They couldn’t find any water or anyone as they went inside. They then searched around for money or any sweets and when they couldn’t find it they profaned it, which included painting on the face of an idol and damaging objects, he said.
A case against desecration was reported by a man named Prem Kumar who was going to the temple the next day. The four boys were charged after inquiry. They have been sent to juvenile school by a local court as punishment.
Veerji Kohli, Sindh CM’s special assistant on human rights, told a media source when it was announced that he was aware of the case.
“At that point, the police didn’t know who the suspects were and all we knew was that footprints found at the temple belonged to children,” he said.
Upon comparing their footprints with those at the temple, the police then tracked the four suspects with the help of the locals who are experts at matching footprints.
