Former president Mamnoon Hussain dies at 80

Former president and the leader of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) Mamnoon Hussain has passed away on Wednesday.
According to media reports, the 80-year-old politician breathed his last after a prolonged illness as he was being treated at a private hospital in Karachi.
The deceased took oath as the 12th President of Pakistan, replacing Asif Ali Zardari in September 2013.
The incumbent President Arif Alvi has expressed grief over the demise of his predecessor.

Hussain was born in Agra, British India in 1940 as his family was later migrated to Karachi after the partition of the sub-continent.
Businessman by profession, Hussain started his political career in late 1960s from Pakistan Muslim League led by former premier Nurul Amin.
In 1993, he joined Nawaz Sharif and during whose second term, he served the post of the Governor of Sindh in 1999 for four months before the Nawaz-led government was overthrown as a result of a military coup.
