Foreign-funded elements involved in Maulana Adil Khan’s murder: police

KARACHI: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Sindh Police on Tuesday said that foreign-funded elements were involved in murder of Jamia Farooqia’s Maulana Adil Khan.
Maulana Adil Khan was assassinated, while sitting in his vehicle, near Shama Shopping Centre in Shah Faisal colony on Oct 10. A case was registered against unidentified suspects.
The CTD said the suspects who martyred the religious scholar were also involved in attack on Mufti Taqi Usmani. “The criminals take help from local people for recces,” said police adding that they were very close to arrest them.
On Oct 12, Sindh Education and Labour Minister Saeed Ghani had admitted that Maulana Adil Khan was not provided proper security.
However, he had said, the Sindh government was bound by the decision of the Supreme Court to provide security to people only after approval of the threat assessment committee.
The provincial minister had also said Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed should be interrogated about who told him that terrorist incident could take place in the country.
The funeral prayer of renowned religious scholar Maulana Adil Khan was offered at Jamia Farooqia in Karachi on Oct 11, after which he was laid to rest inside the premises of the Jamia.
The prayer was attended by a large number of renowned Ulema, students of Jamia, various political leaders and people from different walks of life.
