CHITRAL: The incident of glacial lake outburst flood in Yarkhoon valley of Chitral on Tuesday vanished the main road to Broghil at Sholkoch village, hence disconnected Yarkhoon with rest of Pakistan.
The Yarkhoon valley is located at the extreme north of Pakistan, 12,000 feet above sea level.
Global warming is one of the major causes of heavy water discharge from glacier in Chitral and this incident is not new. Almost every year glaciers burst out at different places of Upper Chitral.
Yarkhoon is a tourist attraction spot because of its high mountains, expended glaciers, wildlife, waterfalls and spring water.
Meanwhile, the tourists planning to visit the valley in few days have cancelled their tours because of the incident.
Almost 15,000 population of the valley is stuck in Upper Yarkhoon and this is an alarming situation.
According to sources, no rescue operation started yet by the district management or any relevant organisation.
The residents of Yarkhoon valley have appealed CM KP to take immediate action of this incident by directing the district management to send heavy machinery at the spot to rebuild the affected road as soon as possible.
