Five Iran-backed fighters killed in Israel missile strikes on Syrian capital

DAMASCUS: Syria has said that Israel has carried out missile strikes on its capital Damascus. At least five Iran-backed fighters were reportedly killed in the attack.
However, a Syrian military spokesman claimed that its air defences thwarted most of the missiles before reaching their targets and the attack inflicted only material losses.
Source said Israeli airstrikes hit an Iranian ammunition depot in southern Damascus. Syrian state TV channel said Israeli missiles were propelled over the Syrian Golan Heights.
“The Israelis have targeted a major ammunitions depot. There were several strikes and the blasts were huge. There are reports that Iranian personnel have been killed,” a Syrian defence analyst Zaid al-Reys said in a statement quoted by Al-Jazeera.
