First school for transgenders inaugurated in Lahore

The Punjab School Education Department (SED) has inaugurated first transgender school in Lahore to educate and teach skills to transpersons.
The transgender students would be offered free education from class 1 to class 12 in the school.
Around 36 transgenders were enrolled in the school and the trained teachers will serve their skills to teach the transpersons.
The first of its kind Transgender School in the public sector in provincial capital has been started by creating a separate space at Government Girls High School, Barkat Market.
After this initiative of the SED, transgenders living in Lahore will be able to learn different skills as well as academic education.
Talking to journalists at the inauguration ceremony, Punjab Education Minister Murad Raas said that books, bags, uniforms, transport and other facilities will be provided free of cost to the transgender students.
He added that the teachers for the Transgender School would also come from Transgender community.
At the moment, Murad announced to bear the expenses of Alisha Shiraz, a transgender scholar who is doing PhD in Education from Bahauddin Zakariya University.
