 First female announcer of PTV passes away at 73

KARACHI: First female announcer of the Pakistan Television, Kanwal Naseer has passed away at the age of 73 in Islamabad.

She was under treatment at a hospital in Islamabad, due to illness. She had been associated with PTV and Radio Pakistan for more than five decades.

Kanwal Naseer was daughter of famous broadcaster Mohni Hameed (Aapa Shamim). She made first announcement of establishment of PTV on Nov 26, 1964, by saying, “This is Kanwal Naseer. Today, Pakistan Television has come into being. Congratulations to you.”

She had started working in the TV at the age of 17. She was also the first heroine of TV drama. She has been honoured with different national awards including the Pride of Performance.
