 First case of new Omicron sub-variant reported in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The first case of a new sub-variant of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus has been reported in Pakistan. According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), the new variant is named “Omicron sub-variant BA.2.12.1.”

According to the details, the National Institutes of Health confirmed the new sub-variant of Omicron in the country on the social networking website Twitter and said that the first case of Omicron sub-variant BA.2.12.1 has been reported.

NIH has detected the first case of Omicron sub-variant BA.2.12.1. This new sub-variant is causing increasing number of cases in different countries.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) said the precautionary measure against corona is vaccination. Citizens should apply corona booster doses on a priority basis.

The best preventive measure (besides mask-wearing at crowded places) is COVID-19 vaccination. We strongly recommended getting vaccinated and all those due for boosters must get the shots immediately.

Notably, the number of cases of Corona virus is decreasing in the country. The total number of deaths due to corona virus were 30,369 while the total number of cases of Covid-19 in the country has reached 1,527,956.
