First batch of Saanen goats brought from Turkey
PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Department of Livestock has introduced Saanen goats for the first time in Pakistan.
The first batch of Saanen goats comprises 100 goats and it has been brought from Turkey to introduce its breed in the country in a bid to increase production of milk.
A research centre has been established in district Swat of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the goats. The research center would distribute the goats to farmers in Malakand division after completion of the research.
The circle of distribution of the goats would be expanded to the entire province in the next years.
Sources of the livestock department said that Saanen goats were found in up to 80 countries around the world and they were famous for production of milk. After the research, more batches of goats would be brought from Turkey, they said.
