KARACHI: On Saturday, fire broke out on the first floor of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD).

Hospital administrators say fire brigade vehicles have extinguished the fire on the second floor. The cause of the fire in the operation theater is still not known.

Two fire brigade vehicles participated in the operation to control the fire, Director NICVD Dr Hameedullah Malik said, adding that the fire caused minor damage to the theater.

Police sources said that a transformer of Urdu Bazar was leaked, due to which fire engulfed the nearby plaza.

After the fire broke out in the plaza, rescue teams reached the scene and after a few hours of work the fire was put under control.

Rescue sources told that a man was airlifted to a nearby hospital.
