ISLAMABAD: Special Advisor to Prime Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Tuesday lauded the opposition parties, specially the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), for supporting the Army (Amendment) Bill 2020 in the best interest of the nation.
“The environment of unanimity should prevail for approval of laws for welfare of people,” Firdous Ashiq Awan said while addressing a press conference in Islamabad after the National Assembly approved the bills regarding tenures of services chiefs. She was flanked by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Senator Faisal Javed on this occasion.
Faisal Javed welcomed the approval of the bills saying that there were some legislations which were dragged by the opposition despite the fact that they were deeply in the interest of the nation. He suggested that such legislations which were in the best interest of the common men should also be approved unanimously.
To a query, Firdous said the regional, financial and internal issues required the army chief to get extension.

Earlier in a tweet, the PM’s special assistant had said that mutual harmony was need of the hour viewing the prevailing situation in the region.
She had said Pakistani nation had always overcome challenges through unity and solidarity.
The special assistant had said the unanimous approval of Army Act bill by the standing committee on defense was a proof that the nation was all united for the country’s interests.
She said unanimous stance of political parties on an important national issue was triumph of democracy. She said protection of national security and interests was the government’s foremost priority.
The National Assembly on Tuesday approved the Pakistan Army (Amendment) Act, 2020 bill with majority of votes.
The bill regarding amendment in the Army Act was presented before the National Assembly for approval by Federal Defence Minister Pervez Khattak. Prime Minister Imran Khan was also present on this occasion.
