KARACHI: A case has been filed on Friday in the five-storey building collapse incident in Gulbahar area of Karachi as death toll in the incident climbed to 16.
The First Information Report (FIR) was registered at Rizvia Police Station. The FIR has been lodged in the state’s name against the building owner.
Rescue sources confirmed recovering two more dead bodies from under the rubble, rising the death toll to 16, while 22 others were injured. The building had fallen on two adjacent buildings, bringing both of them down.

Several families, including one of the owner’s, were residing in the building which was constructed two years ago. Police and Rangers personnel have also arrived for rescue works. The injured have been shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medical assistance.
Different portions were created in the building and sold, said residents of the area. On every floor of the edifice there were two families residing.
Sindh Governor Imran Ismail and Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had taken notice of the incident. CM Murad Shah had sought details of the incident from concerned authorities.
The tragic incident is a question mark on performance of the Sindh Building Control Authority.
