FIA to not pursue money laundering case against PM Shehbaz, CM Hamza

Lahore: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) decided on Thursday not to prosecute Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz in an Rs16 billion money laundering case.
Special Judge Central Ijaz Hassan Awan made the request of the FIA prosecution team part of the record and issued a written order on the request of the FIA prosecutor.
The court said that after the hearing on April 11, the FIA had submitted a petition stating that the concerned authorities are no more interested in the trial. “Director-General FIA has decided not to appear in the court against Shehbaz Sharif,” FIA’s special prosecutor said.
Earlier, The FIA had booked PM Shehbaz and his sons, Hamza and Suleman, in November 2020 under sections 419, 420, 468, 471, 34 and 109 of Prevention of Corruption Act and read with 3/4 of Anti Money Laundering Act. Suleman Shehbaz is absconding in the UK.
