Federal government sacks Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar
Federal Minister for Law Fawad Chaudhry tweeted that federal government has sacked Governor Punjab Chaudhry Sarwar.
Federal Minister for Law Fawad Chaudhry tweeted that the new governor of Punjab would be announced later.
Fawad Chaudhry said that according to the constitution, the Deputy Speaker would be the acting governor and the new governor of Punjab would be announced later.
After the removal of the Governor of Punjab, the powers were transferred to the Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly, after which Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari became the Acting Governor of Punjab.
Government sources said that Chaudhry Sarwar was campaigning for PML-N leader Hamza Shahbaz in the election of Punjab Chief Minister and he was opposing Pervez Elahi for the post of Chief Minister.
According to sources, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi telephoned Prime Minister Imran Khan and lodged a complaint, on which the Prime Minister took notice and advised the President to remove the Governor of Punjab.
