FBR confiscates illegal cigarettes worth Rs 40 million
ISLAMABAD: The Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) has seized half a million illegal cigarettes near the Burhan Motorway Interchange.
According to the FBR, 600 packets, which included 6,000,000 sticks of local brands of illegal cigarettes and which is worth Rs40 million, were recovered from two vehicles.
Moreover, FBR also revealed that Rs9.9 million of Federal Excise Duty and Rs2.756 million of sales tax were not paid to the government for the cigarettes.
However, the directorate has seized the cigarettes and legal proceedings are underway for the recovery of taxes against the manufacturer.
