Fake Astronaut takes PKR6.5 million from woman to ‘Return to Earth’, marry her

A 65-year-old Japanese woman was allegedly duped of around 4.4 million yen (Rs6500000) by a man who posed as a Russian astronaut working at the International Space Station. The conman demanded money from the woman on the pretext of returning to Earth and marrying her.
According to reports, the woman and the fake astronaut became friends on Instagram in June this year. The conman had pictures of space in his profile to give the false impression that he worked on the space station.
The two first became friends and then the conman expressed his love for the woman and proposed her.
The conman told her he needed money to return to earth and marry her. He claimed a landing fee had to be paid for the rocket which could fly him to Japan, the report stated.
However, the woman lured with the man’s words and sent him over Rs6.5 million online in 5 different installments between August 19 and September 5.
The woman became suspicious when the man demanded more money. However, she lodged a complaint with the police, where the case is now being investigated.
