EU agrees on single phones, tablets charger law

Apple will have to change the connector on iPhones sold in Europe by 2024 after EU countries and lawmakers agreed to a single mobile USB Type-C charging port for mobile phones, tablets and cameras in a world first.
According to the foreign news agency ‘Reuters’, this political interference has come at a time when the companies have failed to reach a common solution.
Regarding this decision, the European Commission says that it will create convenience for consumers and save their money too.
Europe has been trying to introduce a single mobile charging port for more than a decade after consumer complaints surfaced, with iPhone and Android users complaining about having to use different chargers to charge their devices.
IPhones are charged via a lighting cable, while USB devices are used to charge Android devices.
By the fall of 2024, the USB Type-C Connector will become a common charging port for all mobile phones, tablets and cameras used in the European Union, according to a statement from the European Parliament.
Apple warned that the proposal would hurt innovation and that the decision would create a mountain of electronic waste. However, the company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
