A 53 year old National hero from Lyari, Karachi, Muhammad Essa Parya, who participated in Dubai Marathon, representing Pakistan he ended a 42 miles race to win the silver medal in 2020.
“My journey to Dubai started from a video made by a private TV channel, which gave me recognition. I got called up from Dubai and they supported me” says Essa.
I went to Punjab for the qualifiers, and qualified with few other athletes. Punjab government provided me with the essentials to compete, unlike Sindh government” .
“When I received this medal I got very happy and I thought I’ll work even harder to make Pakistan proud” Essa added while reminiscing the moments at the marathon.
While further sharing his experiences, Essa emphasizes on the challenges and problems faced by him during his journey to Dubai, mentioning that he had no support from Sindh government and he had to do everything on his own.
He further asserts that he did not even had shoes for running and training as his old shoes were torn.
Essa has been participating in athletic games and running on national stage for the past 27 years and is still passionate about running.
Essa has now decided to open a training school with his own resources to support and encourage the youth towards healthy activities, so that they make Pakistan proud in the future.
“No one supported me when I needed it, but now I want to support the youth.” adds Essa while talking to Dialogue Pakistan.
Currently, Essa is working as a gardener to make his ends meet where he earns 17000rs per month and lives a difficult life.
